PROJECT : Deep Glider Tests

Over the last week (13/12/2010 – 20/12/2010) SOCIB started testing the new glider “NewWilly” with a deep mission to 1000 meters depth.  These tests were made incrementally in order to test the pressure capability of the deep glider.

All the deep glider missions at 300, 500, 800 and 1000 meters depth were started with a “single yo” mission at those depths (v300, v500, v800 and v1000) to ensure the correct behaviour of the glider. Those deep missions were configured to run during 21-22 hours. The last mission at 1000 meters depth ran for over 72 hours without any problems, and for the first time the deep glider “New Willy” reached the 1000 meters mark.
