Tomeu Cañellas on Assignment in Sinai
The SOL Team travelled to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt with Dr. Damià Jaume and Maria del Mar Bauzá to search for a “living fossil”, a microorganism called Metacrangonyx that lives in the desert’s underground waters. These organisms used to live in the Thetys Sea and have since dispersed with the tectonic plates. Locked away in underground waters, Maria del Mar Bauzá and Dr. Damiá Jaume study the genetic dispersion of these organisms through the ages.
